The Burning Crusade Tales - Jewelcrafting Guide (Updated)JeeebeZ/LeiGui has made nice usage of Google Spreadsheets, power leveling your Jewelcrafting. And much more info about Jewelcrafting collected from different places and some personal experience. The disclaimer is obvious - based on beta and it might slightly change in retail.
Jewelcrafting can be learned in new TBC cities - Silvermoon (Horde) and Exodar (Alliance) - all way from Apprentice to Artisan and possibly even Master (if that does not change). Master Jewelcrafting (300-375) trainer is also at Thrallmar (Horde) and Honor Hold (Alliance).
If you want pick up Jewelcrafting be prepared - demands lot of ores (either turned to bars or used for Prospecting) and gems and some other materials from time to time. Mining is therefore good companion. Either as your second profesion or have an alt/main with Mining - you will get ore and gems from mining (Prospecting is Jewelcrafting skill learnable at level 20 from vendor - can turn 5 ore into some gems, works similar to Disenchanting if you want). If you plan seriously leveling your Jewelcrafting have ready disenchanter to get rid of tons of items you produces - they will be unsellable for sure.
As many other professions there is a tool you have to purchase and keep with you - Jeweler's Kit - sold by most of Trade Goods vendors for 8s - so you can easily throw it away and repurchase (as i do with my Blacksmithing tools on my main).
For Gem cutting (see later) you will need Simple Grinder.
Jewelcrafting produces rings, necklaces, trinkets, crowns and socketable gems. The last one is used for improving socketed items and it's new feature of TBC. Looking at Jewelcrafting list makes obvious one thing - it can produce nice items for lower level chars. Many of produced items have nice stats and seems that up to level 30 can be Jewelcrafting really usefull (after lvl 30 the dungeons will provide better items). And end-game? Producing gems to improve socketed gear is something really, really good.
Your leveling of Jewelcrafting will need lot of mats (see later). Good news is that up to lvl 300 you are fine with mats found in Old World, over 300 you will need mats found only in Outland. Your Jewelcrafting level is also involved in your possibility to use Prospecting (and you cannot Prospect non-base ores, so mining is still a must).
Other important skill of Jewelcrafter is going to be gem cutting - you just get a gem, appropriate recipe and Simple Grinder (Trade Goods from vendor). There is cooldown on cutting meta gems (1 hours) - cutting of Uncommon/Rare gems is without cooldown. And because of different recipes, you will be able to do different cuts (Brilliant, Gleaming, Thick, Rigit and Smooth) with different stats result.
Gems created by Jewelcrafter can be applied to socketed item by anybody, so expect new market of Gems emerge soon.
"Item Socketing" is available for any socketed items through Shift RIght Click on item. It will open dialo show on picture above - you can see the sockets and their colors and place gems into sockets to see the effects and stats. Socketed items have often bonus when all sockets are used by gems. Also there are meta sockets on some items (headpieces most probably) where meta gem can be placed - meta gem will change stats based on other gems places in sockets.
After placing required gems into sockets you have to secure them in there by pressing "Sockets Gems". Until then you can play with item and gems. After securing gems into sockets they cannot be removed - however, you can replace them with different gems. Previous one gets destroyed.
It's important to note that sockets are colored - red, yellow or green. The gems are colored as well, while there are gems of more than three colors - those match two possible sockets. And every gem tells which socket it matches.
The Consortium is somehow tighly related to gems. Getting Friendly with them will open access to quest offering "once a month" a sack of gems as "payment" for your services.
Aldors have Jeweclrafting trainers.

Leveling jewelcrating is as any other profession - you will need a lot of mats (see later also). I am still going through it, so here are few hints.
You will need a lot of bars. Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Iron, etc. As some ores are rare - like Silver and Gold - you will run into problem sooner or later. Jewelcrafting around lvl 100 is in need of Silver Bars. So be prepared.
Some jewelcrafting designs are available only from vendors (Exodar/Silvermoon and also other places). When you feel stuck and unable to level, try to check.
Some jewelcrafting items need various different items - even drops from beasts. And as usual, they are not really freely available.
You will need also some gems which are available through mining, but can be obtained through prospecting - remember that you need 5 base ores (not bars) to get some gems (and some crap with it) - sometimes you get only gray crap, sometimes you get gems which you can use for your leveling.
You can get gems from Gnomeregan - there is cleaning machine (quest) which will give you package with some gems and other stuff.
Jewelcrafting Power Leveling (made by JeeeBeZ/LeiGu) can be found at Google Spreadsheets, copy is here. For lot of fun, check Jewelcrating Price list (second sheet) when you are there - and look at final price of leveling your Jewelcrafting - it's something over 500G in bids, over 700G in BO.

Solid Stone Statue (10 Solid Stone) – Made 5
185-215
Engraved Truesilver Ring (1 Truesilver Bar, 2 Gold Bars) – Made 42
215-220
Truesilver Commander’s Ring (3 Truesilver Bars, 2 Star Rubies, 2 Citrine) – Made 5
220-225
Aquamarine Signet (3 Aquamarine, 4 Flask of Mojo) – Made 5
(Should have made this from 215 or even 210 – orange the whole way to 225 - but I resisted going to farm the Mojo on the test server until I didn’t have any choice.)
225-236
Dense Stone Statue (10 Dense Stone) – Made 16
236-250
Thorium Setting (3 Thorium Bars) – Made 20
Ended up making far more than 20, so could have squeezed a few more points out here, probably 5 or 10.
250-274
Ruby Pendant of Fire (1 Thorium Setting, 1 Star Ruby) – Made 30
Probably worth it to keep making this until you run right out of rubies or it turns grey, since you end up with a lot of them from mithril and thorium ore.
274-281
Simple Opal Ring (2 Large Opal, 2 Thorium Bars, 1 Thorium Setting) – Made 7
281-285
Glowing Thorium Band (2 Azerothian Diamonds, 1 Thorium Setting, 1 Thorium Bar) – Made 4
This is the list of materials I’m planning on having on-hand for when the expansion hits. Gems could be substituted for ore of the appropriate level, but some of the low level ones like Shadowgem are dirt cheap at auction now.
